LILFOOTER
AOL Live proudly welcomed rocker Lenny Kravitz to the stage. Lenny chatted about his music, his career, his new CD, 'Lenny,' featuring the hit single, 'Dig In,' and much more. See what he had to say below!

Host: Hi, everyone! Let's welcome Lenny Kravitz to AOL!

Question: How old were you when you learned how to play the guitar?

Lenny Kravitz: I was about 9.

Question: Lenny, I'm a big fan. What inspired you to become a musician? Who or what has influenced you most in your writing?

Lenny Kravitz: My love for music and the feeling it gave me when I listened. Life in general.

Question: What is the best song you have ever written?

Lenny Kravitz: I really couldn't answer that question... I have no idea. It's too hard for me to figure that out.

Question: Lenny, the events on Sept. 11 affected many, many people. In what ways did it affect you?

Lenny Kravitz: I was in New York, and I was definitely horrified. The thing that makes me the saddest is that we haven't learned to deal with each other. People with different backgrounds have to learn to deal with each other in a peaceful manner.

Question: What are you most thankful for, Mr. Kravitz?

Lenny Kravitz: I'm most thankful for life in general.

Question: Lenny, with everything going on, how does this affect your concert dates?

Lenny Kravitz: I'm not touring until the spring, so nothing has been affected.

Question: Lenny, what advice do you have for a person who is trying their best to become a singer? I even play guitar, but I just really wanna be famous before the age of 13. I'm now 11.

Lenny Kravitz: Your motivation should not be about being famous, it should be about becoming an artist, if that's what you want to be. Hopefully, from that, people would come to know you.

Question: Lenny, does it feel weird

to have people that are a lot older than you look up to you?

Lenny Kravitz: I'm thankful for anybody that enjoys my music, regardless of their age. It feels great to have a lot of people enjoying my gift.

Question: Hi, Lenny. I just wanna know what's it like having a million fans all over the world. Do you ever have any privacy? I love you!!!

Lenny Kravitz: In order to get privacy, I have to really, really pull back and have privacy within the confines of my own world.

Question: What is in your CD player right now?

Lenny Kravitz: Bob Marley's ‘Catching Fire.’

Question: What's your favorite track off your 'Greatest Hits' album to play live? Lenny, when will you be starting your tour?

Lenny Kravitz: My favorite to play live, 'Let Love Rule.' I'll be touring in the spring.

Question: Lenny, what is your holiday wish?

Lenny Kravitz: Peace.

Question: I would like to know if Lenny will ever come to Argentina. We are waiting for him.

Lenny Kravitz: I will definitely be coming next year, probably in the spring.

Question: What kind of things do you like doing in your free time?

Lenny Kravitz: Hang out with the people that I love, talk, listen to music, cook -- regular boring stuff.

Question: If you could play with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?

Lenny Kravitz: Jimi Hendrix and Miles Davis -- both dead, unfortunately!

Question: What made you realize you "made it"? Was there a specific event?

Lenny Kravitz: I still don't feel like I've made it -- I'm always trying to do better and go farther.

Question: If you had to pick what you think is the best singer of all time, who would it be?

Lenny Kravitz: Michael Jackson as a child.

Question: Just to make sure you got the question... I'm Leeah. What music do you listen to? Do you listen to your own or different music? -- Leeah, Daytona Beach, Fla.

Lenny Kravitz: I don't listen to my own stuff, but I

listen to a little bit of everything.

Question: Lenny, has anyone inspired you to write a song? Are any of the songs on your album inspired by anyone?

Lenny Kravitz: Yes, there are songs on the album that are directed towards certain people in my life. 'Yesterday Is Gone' is about a very good friend of mine.
LILFOOTER
Question: Any thoughts about where you will be in, oh, say, 10 years, 20 years music-wise?

Lenny Kravitz: I have no idea where I'll be in 10, 20 years! Hopefully I'll still be making music.

Question: How would compare your new album to you previous works?

Lenny Kravitz: I don't compare them; they all stand on their own.

Question: Hello, Lenny. I'm 37, and I've been a fan for years. The more I listen, the more I love your unique voice. You have so much confidence and a fantastic sense of style. I admire your spirituality. How long did you work on the lyrics for this album?

Lenny Kravitz: It's hard to say. When I'm in the studio and writing, I'm very unaware of time.

Question: The lyrics to 'If I Could Fall in Love' are beautiful. Is that how you are feeling now?

Lenny Kravitz: Yes.

Question: What are your biggest flaws and highlights of your life?

Lenny Kravitz: I'm a perfectionist. My highlights are my family, friends, music and God.

Question: How did Prince influence your musical style?

Lenny Kravitz: He dared to be different than the rest of the crowd. He completely influenced me, as did Stevie Wonder.

Question: What is your next project?

Lenny Kravitz: I'm going to start my next album in January.

Question: In what way is touring in the U.S. different from touring overseas?

Lenny Kravitz: Overseas, you're in a different country every day. In America, you're still in America every day, though you're in a different state.

Question: I love your song 'Rosemary.' It's been my favorite for years. I like your other songs as well, but I like the raw sounds from 'Let Love Rule.' Your voice and acoustics sound great together. Any chance of more songs like that?

Lenny Kravitz: I never know what I'm going to do. I t

hink on this album there are a few things that have that feel.

Question: Lenny, is it true you taught yourself how to play the piano, guitar and drums?

Lenny Kravitz: And the bass guitar! Yes, that's true!

Question: How do you go about writing lyrics to a song?

Lenny Kravitz: It just happens. I'm not really aware of how or why it happens.

Question: Lenny, you've always done your own producing and performing. Did that hold true for your new album?

Lenny Kravitz: Yes, I did.

Question: Do you wanna ever sing in the Super Bowl or a major event, Lenny?

Lenny Kravitz: Never thought about it.

Question: Lenny, what influence did your parents have on your musical career?

Lenny Kravitz: They took me around to see all of the great artists as a child. It shaped my musical vocabulary.

Question: What do you like most about your awesome career and fame?

Lenny Kravitz: I get to play and record music. I'm a studio junkie.

Question: What advice can you give to me, a struggling musician, for support?

Lenny Kravitz: Believe in your art and always do what you feel. Don't let businesspeople dictate what you do with your art.

Question: How does it compare singing songs that you have written to singing other people's songs?

Lenny Kravitz: I like doing both. People that have written beautiful songs, I like to sing at home or just playing around. I thought of doing a cover album at some point of songs that I love.

Host: What's your favorite cover song?

Lenny Kravitz: I don't really have one particular favorite.

Question: What is it like being called "the second coming of Jimi Hendrix"?

Lenny Kravitz: It's flattering, but I really can't be the next anybody. I can only be myself.

Comment: Your music has really touched me and gotten me through some tough times. How does it make you feel to know that you have helped so many people that you don't know?

Lenny Kravitz: That's probably the greatest

lesson in this whole thing that I do.

Comment: You're such a big star -- so who or what keeps you grounded?

Lenny Kravitz: My mother taught me great lessons. They keep me grounded.

Question: Lenny, what was it like producing Madonna's video for 'Justify My Love'?

Lenny Kravitz: It was a lot of fun! Very sexy. It was a great honor to provide her with that.

Question: Knowing you, have you started working on the next album yet?

Lenny Kravitz: I'm starting the new album in January.

Question: Lenny, the Internet -- are you a fan of it?

Lenny Kravitz: I think it's very interesting and I'd like to do more of it, but I spend all of my time in the studio.

Host: We're about out of time. Thanks, Lenny!

Lenny Kravitz: Thanks to all of you! I really appreciate you all logging on here.

Host: Watch him tonight on Leno. And everybody, go out and buy his new album, 'Lenny'!

Lenny Kravitz: Peace to all!

Thanks for posting that. I was curious to see it, and appreciate that it finally got posted here.

I guess I'm having another one of my superficial moments, but I was impressed that he likes to cook.... I love men who can cook. I can't even boil water correctly, so I always enjoy seeing that the number of men who like to cook is growing.... Living on nothing but microwave meals since my divorce has been a real bummer....
